Jesus points us to the birds and flowers to remind us of our Father’s care. This five-day devotional follows Stephen Goreham’s message and invites us to move from knowing about God’s love to trusting Him in everyday life.
Across the week we will consider five themes: being valued before we perform, trusting the Father with our needs, coming honestly to God, discovering love greater than fear, and knowing that we are wanted rather than merely useful.
Watch the sermon: How Much More: Trusting the Father’s Love.
Day 1 — Valued Before You Perform
People’s opinions, your achievements and your failures cannot set your worth before God. Jesus directs our attention to the Father who cares for His creation and treasures His children. You are not an unnoticed name on a rota; you are someone He calls into relationship with Himself.
The cross reveals love that moved towards us before we had anything to offer. Service and obedience matter, but they are our response to grace, never the price of God’s affection. Let gratitude replace the exhausting attempt to prove you deserve His attention.
Today’s Scripture
“but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8 (ESV)
Pause and reflect
Whose opinion has been shaping your worth? Have you been trying to earn the love God has already demonstrated in Jesus?
Prayer
Father, thank You for loving me before I could offer anything to You. Free me from striving for acceptance. Holy Spirit, help me respond to Your grace with grateful obedience. Amen.
Today’s step
Before beginning your next task, pause and thank God for the cross. Serve today from love, rather than to earn it.
Day 2 — Trusting the Father with Your Needs
Money, health, family and tomorrow’s uncertainties can fill our thoughts until we live as though everything depends on us. Jesus does not dismiss these concerns. He places them within the care of a Father who knows what His children need and calls them to seek His kingdom first.
Trust does not give us every detail of the journey. It teaches us to depend on the One who leads. God may provide through people, practical wisdom or strength for the next step. Delay is not proof that His love has disappeared. Bring your needs honestly, while remaining open to His timing and purposes.
Today’s Scripture
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
Pause and reflect
Which concern have you been carrying as though you were alone? What would seeking God’s kingdom first look like in that situation?
Prayer
Father, You know what I need. I bring You my worries and surrender my demand to control every answer. Holy Spirit, guide my decisions and teach me to trust Your faithful care. Amen.
Today’s step
Write down one worry. Pray about it, then take one wise, faithful step without trying to solve the whole future today.
Day 3 — Coming Honestly to God
Prayer is not a performance for a Father who needs convincing. Jesus invites us to ask, seek and knock because God welcomes dependence. You do not have to hide your weakness or polish your words before coming into His presence. He already knows your heart.
The returning son in Luke 15 came with honest confession and found a compassionate father. Sin is serious, and repentance matters. Yet the gospel does not tell us to stay away until we have repaired ourselves. Through Jesus, we can turn back, receive forgiveness and allow the Holy Spirit to change us.
Today’s Scripture
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
Matthew 7:7 (ESV)
Pause and reflect
What have you felt unable to tell God? Is there a sin to confess, a weakness to acknowledge or a need to bring?
Prayer
Father, I come honestly through Jesus. Forgive my sin and help me stop hiding. Holy Spirit, teach me to pray with trust, listen with humility and respond to Your leading. Amen.
Today’s step
Spend ten unhurried minutes with God. Bring one honest confession and one clear request, then make room to listen.
Day 4 — Love Greater Than Fear
A difficult season can make us question whether God still sees us. Romans 8 does not pretend that believers escape trouble. It names suffering and danger, then directs us to the love of Christ. The cross remains the clearest evidence of God’s heart when circumstances feel confusing.
Being more than conquerors does not mean pretending that pain is small. It means facing it through the One who loves us. Jesus died, rose again and intercedes for His people. Bring your fears into His presence today; you do not have to face this battle in your own strength.
Today’s Scripture
“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”
Romans 8:37 (ESV)
Pause and reflect
What fear has been speaking louder than God’s love? How does looking at the cross change the way you approach it?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your faithful love. Meet me in the fear I carry. Holy Spirit, strengthen me to stand in truth, receive help and take the next faithful step. Amen.
Today’s step
Read Romans 8:31–39 slowly. Share one burden with a trusted Christian and ask them to pray with you.
Day 5 — Wanted, Not Merely Useful
God calls us into relationship, not simply into a list of jobs. We can become so busy doing things for Him that we stop enjoying time with Him. His holy, faithful love calls our hearts away from rival loyalties and back into closeness, obedience and surrender.
Jesus shows what that love means by laying down His life. We do not buy His affection by serving more or pretending we never struggle. We come through Him, turn from sin and allow the Holy Spirit to reshape us. Our response matters because we are loved, not because we must persuade Him to love us.
Today’s Scripture
“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”
John 15:13 (ESV)
Pause and reflect
Have you been treating God mainly as someone to work for? What would help you make space for friendship with Him?
Prayer
Father, thank You for wanting my heart. Jesus, thank You for giving Your life for me. Holy Spirit, draw me close and make my worship, obedience and service a grateful response to Your love. Amen.
Today’s step
Set aside fifteen minutes with God before adding another task. Thank Him, surrender one competing priority and listen.
Final thoughts
The Father’s love changes how we see ourselves, carry our worries, pray and face fear. Keep returning to the cross. Let what Jesus has done become the foundation of a life that trusts Him and reflects His love to others.
