Our History

The Church has seen many changes over the years since its creation as Blackheath Elim in the 1930s: a project commissioned and started by George Jefferies, the founder of the Elim Pentecostal Movement.  The building itself has been extended multiple times to cater for the growing congregations and work in the Blackheath community.

Several mergers of different congregations have taken place and the church has grown and benefited from each merger, being strengthened each time, seeing God’s blessing being poured out.

The Flame Community Church, the foundation that the current church has been built on was formed in 2003 when the AOG Church that met in Beeches Road and the Elim Church that met in Cardale Street decided to merge and become one. The new church chose to be affiliated to both AOG and Elim which put us in quite a unique position, reflecting our commitment to the unity of the church.

Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!..For there the Lord has commanded the blessing…

We were able to call on resources and experience from each organisation which helped to shape the church into what it is today.  The newly formed Flame Community Church grew in number and reach, affecting the local community in several different ways, from Job Clubs to Alpha Courses.

In 2019 God started to release a fresh vision and stirring into Flame, and after several changes within the leadership structure the seeds of that fresh vision started to breakout into view…In response to a challenge from God to facilitate the fresh vision, the leaders started on a plan to repair and refurbish what had become a tired and ‘well worn building’.  That refurbishment took place in February 2021, right in the middle of a national covid lockdown and was completed in April of the same year.

The Flame re-opened for in-person services on April 11th 2021 and the fresh look of the building reflects the fresh desire and energy to get on with…

The mission of the great commission…

Flame today is a lively family filled place, where people worship God together, do life together and follow Jesus together…
